Alienware ends Riot partnership due to sexual harassment lawsuit, claims report
A Dot Esports cover says PC computer hardware maker Alienware has ended its esports partnership with Riot Games most a full year young due to sexual harassment allegations that were made earlier this year against Howler Chief executive officer Nicolo Laurent. The partnership was in the first place set to die off in January 2022, according to the place's sources, but Alienware has reportedly grown uncomfortable with Riot's public image, which has come under increasing scrutiny succeeding a 2018 Kotaku reputation on "the civilization of sexism" at the studio.
Riot confirmed that information technology has pulled Alienware branding from its League of Legends esports broadcasts, although it didn't reveal what caused the change.
"Alienware has been a valuable partner to Riot since January 2019," it said in a statement. "We can't comment on our understanding with them at this time collectible to confidentiality obligations. As we continue discussions with them, we stimulate abstracted their branding from our broadcasts."
Riot agreed to pay off $10 million to settle a gender discrimination lawsuit filed against it shortly subsequently Kotaku's in-depth report was published, although it continued to insist that sexism at the studio is "not systemic." Riot said it had enlisted an "extracurricular law firm" to bear an investigation into O'Donnell's allegations, but added that her ending was "based along multiple well-credentialed complaints from a variety of people."
